Sruti Desai, LCSW is a social work fellow at Cambridge Health Alliance, splitting her time between the Center for Mindfulness and Compassion and Outpatient Addiction Service. She earned her Master of Social Work at the University of Washington (UW) and completed a concurrent fellowship in integrative oncology and palliative care social work. She also spent over a decade coordinating research on trauma and substance use through the UW Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System and Harborview Abuse and Trauma Center. Sruti received contemplative care training through the New York Zen Center and she has continued to explore the intersection of spiritual care and social work practice in end-of-life care. She also completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training through the UW Mindfulness Program plus additional modules in trauma-informed yoga, embodied social justice, and yoga for cancer. Her interests as a clinician include mindfulness and somatic techniques, particularly in working with patients affected by life-limiting illness, grief and trauma, and substance use. She approaches patient care as a partnership, meeting patients on equal ground with a sense of openness and possibility. Sruti danced professionally for many years and movement continues to be a source of healing and joy in her own life.
