CFI Survey FAQ

  • Does it matter when my loved one passed away?

    • You are welcome to take the survey regardless of when your loved one passed.

  • Does it matter when my loved one started using opioids, how long they’ve been using, or when they were diagnosed with OUD?

    • You are welcome to take the survey regardless of when your loved one began using illicit opioids/how long they have been using or when they were diagnosed with Opioid Use Disorder.

  • Am I allowed to take the survey if my loved one with OUD is in recovery?

    • Yes, the survey questions will ask about your experiences supporting your loved one.

  • Can I share the survey with other people?

    • Yes, you can share the survey with other people you know who have a loved one with Opioid Use Disorder AND/OR have lost a loved one to opioid-related death.

  • Can I take the survey more than once?

    • No, the survey can only be completed once. This is the case to try to ensure that the survey responses most accurately reflect the experiences of the people whom we are trying to support.

  • What if I am supporting multiple people with OUD?

    • While responding to the survey questions, please consider the person who you believe has had the greatest impact on your personal experience.

  • Can I take the survey if I am currently using illicit opioids?

    • Anyone who is currently supporting a loved one with Opioid Use Disorder and/or have lost a loved one to opioid-related death may take the survey. Your own experience in opioid use does not prevent you from participating.

  • Will the survey be triggering or upset me?

    • Some of the survey questions are of a personal nature, and may be activating for certain people. If you decide that you would no longer like to continue the survey for any reason, you may end the survey at any point without penalty.

  • What is the compensation for taking the survey? How much is it?

    • The compensation for completing the survey is a $20 Amazon e-gift card code, which will be delivered to you via a secure email sent directly through REDCap. You must complete and submit Part 1 and Part 2 of the survey to receive compensation.

  • How long will the survey take?

    • Combined, Part 1 and Part 2 of the survey takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

  • Who should I contact if I need help or have questions?

    • If you need help or have questions, please reach out to the study coordinator, Liz Gracey, at opioidimpactstudy@challiance.org. If you would like to contact someone other than the study coordinator about your rights as a participant in this survey, please contact the Cambridge Health Alliance Institutional Review Board at CHAIRBOffice@challiance.org or (617) 806-8702.

  • Can a child in my life take the survey?

    • No, participants must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Is the survey anonymous? Will I be tracked in any way?

    • Yes, your survey responses are completely anonymous. Responses to the survey will only be accessed by members of the research team. As you answer questions regarding your experiences with the opioid crisis, you will not be asked to disclose any identifiable information (e.g., name, address, contact information, etc.). Once you complete the survey, you will be automatically redirected into an external portal where you will be asked to provide the email address to which the program will deliver your compensation. The portal that stores your email address is unconnected from the portal that houses your survey responses, therefore your responses will remain deidentified. Additionally, we provide a field in which you may enter your contact information if you are interested in being contacted about future research. This field is also secured in the external portal and is not connected to your survey responses.

  • Is the survey available in other languages?
