Mindfulness Training in Primary Care (MTPC) Group Leader Training is a 4-day experiential group leader training with a mix of didactic, individual, and small group exercises designed to help attendees learn basic mindfulness group leading skills for clinical settings, and build the foundation to deliver Mindfulness Training for Primary Care (MTPC), the 8-week, trauma-informed, therapeutic mindfulness intervention. MTPC is an insurance-reimbursable mindfulness program shown to be effective for helping primary care patients with anxiety, depression and stress increase their capacity for health behavior change, self-compassion, body awareness, and emotion regulation. This training is appropriate for professionals in the health care, community health, education, mindfulness research, mindfulness intervention, and leadership fields. Learn basic mindfulness group leading skills for clinical settings, and build the foundation to deliver Mindfulness Training for Primary Care (MTPC), the 8-week, trauma-informed, therapeutic mindfulness intervention.

Time:

  • 8:30am - 4:30pm on Thursday, November 7

  • 8:30am - 4:30pm on Friday, November 8

  • 8:30am - 5:00pm on Saturday, November 9

  • 9:30am - 5:00pm on Sunday, November 10

Cost:

  • Early bird registration through October 7: $800

  • Regular registration from October 8 through November 7: $1,200

Registration includes a bound copy of the MTPC manual.

Prerequisites:

  • Fill out the application form. You will be contacted by October 1 about your application status;

  • Complete a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course (check here for September MBSR course dates);

  • Have the willingness to commit to a daily mindfulness/compassion practice for at least 6 months following the training and while leading groups as part of MTPC. It is not necessary to have a clinical degree to attend the training. However, in order to lead MTPC as a clinical treatment and bill to insurance, you must be a licensed mental health or primary care clinician.

Scholarships: available for Massachusetts OBOT clinicians, underrepresented minorities, and those with financial need. Apply for scholarship here.

For CHA Staff and staff of a CMC grant-partnering institution: Due to research grants as well as the generosity of the CHA Department of Psychiatry and CHA Wellness, CMC will cover the registration for MBSR (if applicable) and MTPC Group Leader Training if you agree to lead 2 MTPC groups as a clinical intervention with weekly videoconference supervision with CMC staff during the groups.

CE credits: 28 credit hours pending for social workers, nurses, and psychologists

  • Psychologists: CMC is cosponsoring with The Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy to provide credit hours approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

  • Nursing: This program meets the specifications of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (244 CMR 5.00).

  • Social Workers: Applications for social work CE credits  through NASW and psychologist CE credits through the American Psychological Association have been submitted.

After the training: Individuals who complete the training will have basic skills required to lead mindfulness groups in a variety of settings, including clinical settings. Those wishing to lead the specific MTPC intervention will be required to pair with MTPC faculty for weekly mentorship for the first two groups that they lead following this training. Individuals who have co-led two groups with mentorship may apply for Level 1 Certification which will certify them to lead without mentorship in the future.

Refund policy: There is a $75 registration fee if cancelling at least 8 days the training. 50% refund can be between 7 days and 2 days before the training. No Refund is available if cancellation is within 48 hours before the start of the training.
