Dr. Nick Barnes and Dr. Jennifer Harris will be co-leading a 12 week intensive mindfulness group through the outpatient psychiatry department at CHA for alumni of any 8-week mindfulness-based courses (MBSR, MSC and MTPC). This group will allow patients to strengthen or renew their mindfulness practice within a smaller group setting, emphasizing continuity. It gives an opportunity for people to develop ongoing mindfulness and then apply it to improve emotional health, deal with life's challenges, and enrich their lives.

Each session will include:

  • A guided practice
  • Time to discuss the practice and personal challenges along the way
  • Home practice assignments for the week

The group will be ongoing, and asks for a 12 week commitment with an opportunity to re-enroll at the end of the 12 weeks.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) - 8 Week Group

Dates: Every Tuesday evening from January 30 to March 20, and an All Day Session on Saturday, March 10

    Time: 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM

Location: CHA Central Street Clinic, 26 Central Street, Somerville, 2nd Floor Community Room

Payment: Billed to your health insurance as 12 one-hour psychotherapy groups

This is a group for CHA patients with depression. MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) combines traditional cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) methods with mindfulness meditation.  Research studies have demonstrated MBCT to be as effective as medication in reducing relapse of depression.

In addition to the standard MBCT content, our class will additionally include discussions around medications and their role in improving symptom depression from a mindfulness perspective.
